The abeng sounds again
Queen Nanny of the Maroons is the only woman among Jamaica's seven National Heroes — the spiritual leader who guided the Windward Maroons through the mountains in their fight for freedom.
The abeng, the cow-horn whose call once carried warnings and commands across the Blue Mountains, becomes both title and centrepiece: a symbol of communication, resistance, and cultural memory passed from one generation to the next.
This is not history behind glass. It is the ancestor speaking directly into the present — asking a new generation how it remembers, and whose stories it chooses to carry forward.
